Tutorial for covered Pringles tin

Yes, it is happening! I have a new ( long overdue) tutorial to share with you.
It's so easy to make that it barely needs a tutorial, but I'll show you anyways.

It's a Pringles tin that you cover with patterned paper and then decorate...all according to the season. Works great for Valentine's of course, but also for Christmas, Halloween, Easter and so on.

Perfect to give away your homemade cookies in or just some sweet treats.

I found the idea here. She used the regular size Pringles tin, but I don't wanna give away THAT many cookies;)

This is what you'll need:

Small Pringles tin
Mod Podge (or normal glue works too )
Paintbrush
Patterned paper
Paper trimmer
Whatever decorations you choose

Apply Mod Podge to your tin

Take your patterned paper ( approx. 3 2/16 inches x 10 inches ) and cover the tin. Let the sides overlap a bit and make sure your paper is tight and smooth all around.

Now you just have to decorate. Here I used a border punch and the Cricut. When you are done decorating apply some Mod Podge over the whole thing to seal it and give a bit of shine.

Then add a bow of some kind on top.
( My cookies were all gone when I took this last picture so this sad tin has nothing in it,ha,ha).

That's it for this time. I promise it won't take so long until next tutorial:)

Layered lace flower tutorial

I want to share another flower tutorial I came across.

I found it in this e-book first and that was taken from this blog.  Lisa's blog "What a beautiful mess" is packed with gorgeous inspiration and she has TONS of stunning flower tutorials...and I know you love those, right:)
You have to check it out and make sure to become a follower. I know you don't want to miss anything she posts.

Back to the tutorial...for some reason I struggled more with these flowers than any other flower I've made before. So don't give up if it doesn't look good the first time.

You need;
  • thin patterned paper
  • border punch
  • flower centers
  • paper crimper
  • ink(optional)
  • circle punch (optional)
  • glue
  • cardstock scraps
  • scissors
  • paper trimmer

Start to cut out two ( same or different paper) strips 12 inch x 1 inch

Use your border punch for the edges

Run the strips through your paper crimper. If you don't have one, it will still work.

Punch or cut out a circle. I prefer 1 inch, because I don't want my flowers too big.

Take one the strip and start folding it around the outer edge of the circle. You will not need the whole 12 inch so just cut off the remaining when you're finished all around.

Add some more glue on top of the first layer

Take the other strip and do the same thing.
You will need less than 6 inch of the strip for this layer.

Add a flower center and bend up the top layer and you're done!

Isn't it pretty?

October's sketch

Here's a new sketch based on some older layouts:

This is my first version that I made a couple of years ago:

And this is the (one and only) layout that I had published last year in Creating Keepsakes

I'm working on a updated layout and I'm hoping I will get it done today.
My dear husband came back yesterday after weeks gone, so I might finally be able to get something done around here.
Have a good one!

Tutorial for quilled flowers

Here's some flowers I made the other day:
I call them paper Asters.
To make them you will need:

double sided patterned paper

scissors

bonefolder (optional)

quilling tool (optional)

glue

Cut a strip of paper 12 inch long and about 1- 1 1/2 inch wide.
Fold it in half lengthwise.
Cut a thin fringe along the paper, but leave a tiny part uncut.
Put the strip in the quilling tool
and start rolling up. Put some dots of glue along the edge.
This is what you will have now:
Start from the outside and bend down the fringe.
And it's all done!
If you want full flowers like these, use a 12 inch paper strip.
For these, I used two  6" strips in two different widths.

You can also make them flatter by using a shorter strip and then add a brad or a paper coil in the middle.

I got the inspiration from this picture I found browsing around on Ebay.
Cool huh?

Good luck and let me know how it goes:)

July sketch

I'm sure you remember this layout. It's actually one of my favorites:) I think it's the colors I like so much, but also how simple the design is.

So I decided to make a sketch from it:

Here's some inspiration from parts of the Design Team.

and Bev:

and one from myself:

For flower centers I used rolled up twine.

And I used wire to make flowers using this tutorial.

That's it for today.

Hope you all are enjoying your summer.

Tutorial for Father's Day card with origami

You will need:

 thin patterned paper

 bone folder

Cut a piece of 4" x 6" paper for the shirt.
Fold it in half or even better- draw a line with a pen, because you just need the center line for measuring.

Fold the two sides in so that they meet in the middle.
Turn over (so that the opening is facing down) and fold down about 1/2 inch.

Fold over again and make the collar by folding in the two upper corners so that they meet in the middle.

Fold the shirt in half and tuck the bottom in under the collar.

Unfold.
Fold the bottom corners out. Use the middle fold as guideline.

Fold the bottom of the shirt back up again and voila you shirt is done!

One last thing you can do is to cut out a tiny triangle under the arms so it looks more like sleeves.

Time for the tie.
Again- use thin patterned paper.
Cut a 2" square.
Draw a diagonal line in the middle.

Fold in the two sides so that they meet in the middle.

Turn over and fold down the top about 1/3.

Then fold that top up about 2/3. Not all the way up.

Then fold that remaining part as picture shows. This will make the knot of the tie.

Turn over and repeat the first step; fold the two sides so that they meet in the middle.

Turn over and your tie is done!!
Glue your tie to the shirt.
If your guy is not a "tie guy" you can use brads for buttons instead.

I made a super simple card with this.

I just covered a card in paper, cut out some strips, added brads in the corners, glued down the shirt and used my new Cricut cartridge ( Jubilee) to cut out the words.
Perfect for Father's Day June 20!
