My Top Ten List, # 1

I've been thinking about all the things that I can't scrap without and I made a top ten list which I wanted to share with you.

#1  Adobe PhotoShop Elements (PSE)

I use PSE on e v e r y single photo I take! For real!
I'm not an outstanding photographer in any way so I need all the help I can get to make the photos look good.

My favorite thing to do with the pictures is to adjust the colors.

from color

to black and white

see how much better I look in b/w ;)

I also like to "pump-up" the colors a bit

here- just an ordinary day

and now it's sunnier and more fun, huh?

sometimes you just have to help reality

Another thing I do with PSE is to add a filter.

Look at this crazy pic of me and my gray skin

I think this filter("film grain") works perfect with the photo

Everything I do with PSE is very basic. It's all simple adjustments.

To have a b/w photo with spots of colors, you duplicate the layers and make the top layer b/w. Then you use the eraser-tool to rub off the b/w where you want colors. The colors will reveal from the colored photo underneath.Make sense?

When I'm done with my layout and have scanned it, ( I will talk about my scanner shortly. It's on my list as well) guess what I do?
I adjust the colors of the finished layout in PSE!
Is that crazy or what? I first edit the photos and then I edit the layout. No wonder I spend so much time in front of the computer.

Here's a before and after picture of a scanned layout.

after adjusting the colors in PSE

It's not a huge difference, but I always make the layout a bit darker and "pump-up" the colors again:)

I have PhotoShop Elements 7, but now they have PhotoShop Elements 9 out. It's $ 99, but I saw it at for $68.89 which is a good deal!
If and when you buy it, don't do what I did the first time; I tossed the serial number and when the computer crashed...well, I just had to go and buy me a new AND PSE that is...
I can't survive one day without PhotoShop!

I admire your know-how with PSE. I'm completely PSE challenged! I especially love the blue eyes on the b/w photo!

I got Photoshop Elements as a Christmas Gift last year and I'm still having fun learning. I never thought about tweaking the scan of the layout before! Excellent idea!

I am using PSE nearly 7 years now, PSE7 since summer 2009. At first I had a lot of difficulties and visited some lesson at our local VHS (popular university) which got me started. I am only a basics user, but I don't want to miss it and I read your post with interest! Unfortunately I had a lot of difficulties to find the differences in your last pair of photos as they are really little. Perhaps it works better if you don't have to scroll.
Nevertheless an interesting report which inspires to try out other features of PSE

I've heard such good things about photo shop but am so intimidated of it. We don't have a computer at the moment that is strong enough to hold it either. :-(
